Compost Retail Giveback

Retail Swap Customers it's time to collect you free compost!

All active retail swap customers come by the Impact Earth Lifestyle store in Brighton to pick up your compost soil! Here is how it works:

  1. Bring your bucket of food scraps to swap as you would a typical swap.

  2. Pay $5 to swap your bucket swap.

  3. Receive 5 gallons of compost!

  4. Your compost will be delivered in your bucket that we return to you. You will need to dump out your compost soil in order to use your bucket to fill with food scraps. Let's help reduce our impact together by eliminating single use bags!

This weekend is also our GRAND OPENING! Come for live music, pop up vendors like Amanda's Native Garden, a puppet show at 11am and more!

Come learn about indigenous plants during our second showing of Aubergine the Unicorn and the Missing Butterflies at 11am. Then shop local plants from Amanda's Native Gardens!

Amanda's Native Garden, located in Sparta, NY, specializes in woodland native perennials. We also grow a variety of prairie and wetland plants. We are expanding our line of plants every year. Sparta is located in the Finger Lakes region of Western NY, south of beautiful Hemlock Lake. When you visit plan on spending some time in the Hemlock-Canadice State Forest.

Amanda's Native Garden has an excellent supply of nursery-propagated perennials ready for planting. These wonderful plants are thrilling additions to your garden. Do you have a shady spot or a spot with a little too much moisture? Try using native perennials to solve your gardening problems. These plants are durable, beautiful, and help provide food and habitat for butterflies, moths and birds.

The Lorax Book Reading, Discussion, and Game!

Join Impact Earth and A Frog House for a fun filled afternoon as we learn and play with plants! This STEM event is for all!

At 11am, Beth will start us off by reading the Lorax Book and follow it with a discussion about the meaning of the book and its importance. After, Bonnie, from A Frog House will guide us in a seed ball activity! While you create, you will learn how easy it can be to plant native plants, why trees and plants are vital to our environment, and why we want to preserve them. We will end the event with a game to teach participants about overfishing.

Ranger Fox returns to his den to find that all kinds of trash has blown into it. What a mess! Does he have to clean it up all by himself? He is surprised by what he learns about his waste and the different choices he can make to keep it out of the landfill.

Seed and Plant Swap at Brighton Store

Bring your native plant cuttings, seedlings, bulbs, and/or seeds to a free exchange event. Included for distribution are Butterfly Beltway Native Flower mix seeds remaining from ColorBrightonGreen’s 2022 give away.  Plant and seed swaps are a great way to diversify your gardens and explore new varieties that you may not have grown yet!

Also, if you have any extra 1 or 2 gallon pots, Color Brighton Green can use them for their tree program and you can drop them off at Impact Earth during business hours.

Make an Eco Card!

Join Nancy, our Impact Specialist every second Thursday of the month to receive hands on zero waste programming for your household. She is committed to supporting households’ move toward a zero waste lifestyle.

This class will help you learn to transform your old greeting cards into new ones and be prepared for all of your celebrations. A variety of techniques and how to use supplies will be demonstrated and you will be able to create your own unique designs. Basic supplies will be provided, but If you have any of the items below, please bring them. 

A system for keeping your cards organized will also be shared. What a great way to upcycle your cards and share with the people you care about.

Suggested Materials

  • Old greeting or holiday cards

  • Paper–Card stock– (old file folders work great) Lightweight (colored or white)

  • Cutting Materials–Paper Trimmer, Scissors (plain or assorted edges) Craft Punches

  • Adhesives–Glue sticks, Dots and Glue guns , 2 sided tape
